We are seeking an experienced developer (or small team) to rebuild and modernize our temple’s website using Payload CMS (backend) and Next.js (frontend). The new site will upgrade our current WordPress site (fgs.org.nz) into a bilingual (English + Chinese) platform with streamlined workflows, improved speed, and modern design. One of the key requirements is a robust News & Events publishing system, where editors can: * Publish posts in both English and Chinese * Share the same set of uploaded images across both languages (no duplication) * Bulk upload images for galleries and news posts (drag-and-drop) * Schedule publishing dates and manage archives Migration Requirement The existing site is built with WordPress. We need to: * Migrate all existing news articles, events, and images into the new Payload CMS structure * Ensure bilingual mapping where possible (English -> Chinese) * Preserve SEO and URL redirects from the old site to the new one Other Website Features * Chinese School – program details, timetable, enrollment info * Art Gallery & Temple Gallery – albums, exhibitions, lightbox galleries * Water Drop Café – menu (with categories, items, prices), opening hours, specials * About Us & Contact pages – with form submissions, map integration, and spam protection * General content pages – history, leadership, FAQs, mission statements Technical Requirements * Tech Stack: Payload CMS (Node.js + Postgres or Mongo), Next.js frontend (SSR/SSG), hosted on Azure (preferred) * Bilingual Support: Localized fields (EN/Chinese), language switcher, SEO-friendly URLs with hreflang tags * Content Management: Easy for non-technical staff to manage and translate content * Search: Site-wide multilingual search (Typesense/Meilisearch or similar) * SEO & Performance: Auto sitemaps, OpenGraph, structured data, fast-loading CDN-backed images * Security & Reliability: Role-based permissions, drafts/versioning, HTTPS, backups, monitoring Deliverables * Payload CMS backend (schema + content models) * Next.js frontend with bilingual routing * Migration of all WordPress news/events/images into Payload CMS * Deployment setup (Azure App Service, SWA, Blob Storage/CDN) * Documentation & training for staff (content entry, translation, bulk uploads) * Initial SEO setup (redirects, sitemaps, canonical URLs) * Post-launch support & stabilization Ideal Candidate * Proven experience with Payload CMS and Next.js * Previous WordPress-to-Headless CMS migration experience * Knowledge of multilingual content workflows and SEO best practices * Familiarity with Azure (or similar cloud hosting) * Strong communication and ability to guide non-technical stakeholders Budget Open to proposals.
