I’m spearheading an academic remake of Mary Poppins (1964) to be shot in Argentina and need a skilled set designer/builder to bring the iconic 1960s aesthetic back to life. Your mission is to recreate key interiors and exteriors—think Cherry Tree Lane, the Banks’ living room, and the whimsical rooftop world—using period-accurate materials, textures, and construction techniques while integrating modern safety and filming standards. You may work remotely on concept development and planning, then supervise local fabrication or step on set if you’re available to travel. What you’ll deliver • Detailed concept sketches and mood boards faithful to the original film’s color palette and architectural style • Scaled construction drawings and 3D pre-visualizations ready for approvals and budgeting • A complete material and prop sourcing list optimized for local suppliers or easy import • Practical build guides that accommodate lighting rigs, camera movement, and special-effects integration • (Optional, on-site) Hands-on oversight during the build to ensure finish quality and period accuracy Collaboration & resources You’ll liaise closely with our assistant art director, lighting team, and practical FX technicians. I already have high-resolution frame grabs, production stills, and historical research to share, and I’m open to your preferred design tools—AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, or hand-drafted plans. Timeline & workflow There’s no rigid deadline, allowing us to prioritize craftsmanship and iterative approvals. We’ll set milestones for concept sign-off, technical drawings, and build phases to keep the project moving smoothly. If you have a portfolio that showcases mid-century set work, period dramas, or large-scale themed environments, I’d love to see it. Creativity, meticulous attention to detail, and a genuine passion for 1960s design will make you a perfect fit.
