Unity Developer – Quick 1-2 Hour Test Task / Prototype (Simple Mechanic)

Hello, I'm looking for an experienced Unity game developer (C#) for a very small, well-defined test/prototype task. This is intentionally a short job (estimated 1–2 hours for someone experienced) to evaluate working style, code cleanliness, communication, and Unity best practices before discussing larger ongoing work. Task description: Create a very simple 2D scene in Unity (2021 LTS or newer preferred) with the following: A top-down or side-view player character (simple capsule / square sprite is fine – no need for fancy art) Player can move using WASD / arrow keys + smooth movement (no teleporting) Basic jump mechanic (spacebar) with reasonable physics feel (gravity, jump height ~3–4x character height) One collectible item (coin / gem sprite) that disappears when touched + plays a short particle effect or scale-down animation + adds +1 to a simple on-screen UI counter When 5 coins are collected → show a "Level Complete" text on screen and freeze player movement Clean, organized code structure (no spaghetti code – use reasonable naming, separate scripts where it makes sense) Include very basic camera follow (cinemachine optional but nice) Build target: Windows standalone (but code should be platform-agnostic) Deliverables: Unity project folder (zipped) – only include Assets, ProjectSettings, Packages if you added any A short 30–60 second screen recording (or GIF) showing the mechanic working Brief explanation (in chat or readme) of any interesting choices you made What I'm evaluating: Code quality & organization How fast & clean you implement basic gameplay systems Communication (quick updates, questions if anything unclear) Whether you over-engineer or under-engineer a tiny task Requirements: Proven Unity experience (please attach 1–3 relevant portfolio links, GitHub repos or Upwork jobs in your proposal) Strong C# scripting knowledge Good spoken/written English (we'll communicate via chat & voice if needed later) Available to start within the next 2–3 days Budget: Fixed price $40-80 (depending on experience & proposal quality) I will award the job within 24–48 hours to the best proposal.
